The Vice-Chancellor ,Abia State University,Professor E. Uche Ikonne,has commended the Department of Biochemistry of the university for procuring laboratory equipments.
The Vice-Chancellor who gave the commendation when he visited the department to commission the equipments, stressed the need to include practicals in teaching.
He also said that his management team has a very cordial relationship with the Faculty of biological and physical sciences, as evidently displayed by the Research Grants approved for funding by the University through Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund),and further enjoyed them to to involve the students ,both undergraduate and postgraduate as it will enable them get grounded in the system.
Professor Ikonne also disclosed that his administration will soon kickoff the refurbishment of all laboratories in the university.
Speaking earlier, The Head, Department of Biochemistry Dr. Okereke Stanley said that their action was spurred by the Vice-Chancellor's mandate to improve the research content of the university.
In a vote of thanks,the Dean Biological and Physical Sciences Professor Umeham thanked the Vice-Chancellor for honoring their invitation,as well as the HOD for the laudable achievement.
High point of the visit was the commissioning of the equipments which includes Altracentric-fuge machine,etc by the Vice-Chancellor.
