Forty-two newly qualified Graduate Medical Laboratory Scientists has been licensed by the Abia State University (Uturu) at the 2nd Induction (Oath-taking) ceremony for the 2016/2017 session, Thursday 1st February 2018.
The event, which took place at the University Auditorium, with the theme: “Hazard Analysis, and Critical Points in the Medical Laboratory Science Practice”, also produced the 1st First Class Graduate in the Department, Miss Jumbo Ugonna Kendra.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor O.M.Ogbulu, charged the students to practice and operate with grace and candor, as true ambassadors of ABSU, and appealed to the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, to consider increasing the admission quota for Medical Laboratory Students in the University, considering the human material resources on ground at the institution.
While welcoming the guests to the event, the Dean, Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science Professor O.O. Okechi praised the Vice-Chancellor for his dynamic leadership, which has shown in the 50% increase in students seeking Admission into the programme, completion of a laboratory complex at ABSUTH, Aba for Clinical Training of students, and the near completion of a large and impressive Hostel at Aba.
In his own remarks the Provost of the College of Medical and Health Sciences Professor Christian Aluka, called on the newly Qualified Medical Scientist to serve humanity so that humanity can serve them.
The Guest Lecturer Professor G.R.A. Okogun speaking on the topic “Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points in Medical Laboratory Science Practice”, emphasized that it is not the amount of hazards encountered in the Profession that matters, but how the skill acquired is effectively used to serve humanity, challenging the newly Medical Laboratory Scientists, not to stop reading, in order to keep abreast and understand developing theories and practices of the profession.
Highpoint of the event was the administration of oath and presentation of certificates to the 42 Inductees, and award to best graduating students in respective fields, by the CEO/Registrar Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Sir Tosan Erhabors
Those who graced the occasion include Principal Officers, Provost and Deputy Provost of the College of Medical and Health Sciences, with other senior academic staff of the college, some members of Senate, Students, Parents and guardians.
